Tips for healthy eyes; food, vitamins, and supplements to improve eyesight

The eyes are indeed a blessing and one of the most important senses given to humansAlthough the eyes may be a complicated working organ, taking care of them is not that hard. But how can you do that? Here are a few tips that you can follow for healthy eyes.

Healthy diet:

Healthy food is necessary not only for the eyes but also to maintain and improve overall health. Eating food rich in vitamins A, C, E, omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, etc can provide you with all those nutrients you need to maintain healthy eyes.

Follow the 20-20-20 rule:

If you are constantly looking at your computer or phone screen it can cause eyestrain or fatigue. So, it is recommended that after 20 minutes of screen time or near work rest your eyes by looking preferably 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

Limit screen exposure:

Keep in check your screen time. Prolonged exposure can cause so many eye problems such as dry eyes. Our eyes have a thin tear film that keeps our eyes moist. This tear film renews itself with every blink. But sometimes we are so focused on our phone or computer screens that we forget to blink properly which leads to poor spreading of tear film across the eye surface, which eventually leads to dryness of eyes.

Wear sunglasses:

UV rays from the sun are damaging not only for your skin but also for your eyes. UV A and B rays from the sun can damage your retina and lens which eventually leads to cataracts (changes in the lens) and macular degeneration. So, wear sunglasses for outdoor activities which can block maximum UV rays and avoid direct exposure to the sun.

Occupational safety wear:

Some occupations require extra precautions to avoid eye injury. Occupations like welding, carpenters, swimming, etc are more prone to eye injuries. So, wearing goggles or safety eyewear can protect your eyes from damage.

Regular eye exam:

It is recommended to visit your eye care physician for regular exams. Kids under 12 must undergo a thorough exam every 6 months while adults should be examined annually. While the elderly must get their eyes checked every 3-4 months.

Wear your prescription:

Wear your prescribed glasses or contact lenses. If you opt for contact lenses you should maintain proper hygiene to avoid any infection. Visit your doctor regularly to make sure your prescription is up to date.

Supplements:

Other than your food you may also take supplements to fulfill your daily needs. Taking supplements containing vitamins A, C, and E, and omega-3 fatty acids can help you in improving your vision and eye health.

In conclusion:

Maintaining general health demands giving eye health first priority. These easy-to-follow instructions will protect your eyes from damage and help you maintain your eyesight for a long time. To ensure ideal eye health, keep in mind that routine eye exams, a healthy lifestyle, and suitable eye care techniques are important. Let's promise to maintain perfect vision and valuing the gift of sight, which improves and enhances our daily experiences.
